About Motivational Interviewing
Motivational Interviewing (MI) was originally developed by Dr. William Miller and Dr. Stephen Rollnick, and has been successfully used by counsellors in Western countries to help clients resolve ambivalence about changing difficult behaviors.
Food for the Hungry has adapted MI for use in developing countries, stressing behavior changes including abstinence from sexual activity before marriage and faithfulness in marriage to protect individuals from contracting HIV. Information about correct and consistent use of condoms is provided to individuals who do not choose to be abstinent or faithful.
The materials posted on this website are intended for use by anyone wishing to train others in Motivational Interviewing for use in behavior change programs.Food for the Hungry is a Christian evangelical organization: therefore, the materials contain some reference to Christian religious beliefs. However, these materials could be easily adapted for use with other religious or secular groups.
